Rex Brawn

Very sadly social member Rex Brawn collapsed and died on Monday 9th January.

Rex was a very active and long standing social member and everyone who is a regular on Sunday Lunchtime will know him and miss him. Normally sitting at the far corner of the bar Rex, a retired publican, liked nothing more than a chat normally about football and rugby- particularly Ampthill Rugby Club where his grandsons played.

We always used to joke that it was usually about half an hour after he started leaving that he finally went as he would always speak to everyone. He was at the indoor boot sale on Sunday as well as in the bar afterwards and the news is particularly shocking as he was always trim and fit. Sunday lunchtimes will be a quieter and less fun place without him.

Funeral Details:    Weds 25th Jan at 12.30pm at St Giles Totternhoe and afterwards at DTCC

Kay Brereton

It is with sadness that the Club announces that long standing social member Kay Brereton passed away on Boxing Day.

Kay, who many will know as Lorraine Chapman's mother and the Presidents mother-in-law, was a very regular visitor to, and supporter of, the Club. Many long standing members will also recall Kay's late husband Gerry who died seven years ago and the friends they made over their many years as supporters and members of the Club.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Lorraine, Chappers and Tim at this time.

Funeral Update:  Kay's funeral will be held at St.Mary's Church Eaton Bray, at 10am on Friday 6th January 2012, and afterwards at DTCC Clubhouse from 11am.

Bob Baillie

It is with regret that we announce the passing of social member, Bob Baillie, following a heart attack.

Bob was our only overseas member following his move to SW France a few years back but was regularly visited by other social members and always visited the club when back in the area. Prior to his move he was a regular member of the Sunday lunch time crowd for many years, who will fondly remember him.

Steve Rennison   - 6 August 2011

The Club is very sad to report news of the sudden death of Steve Rennison who collapsed during the game at Eversholt on Saturday afternoon (6th August).

Everyone at the Club wishes to extend their heartfelt sorrow to Elaine and the rest of Steve's family and friends for their loss.

The Club and players at the game also wish to extend their appreciation to the Lifeguard who attended before the paramedic and ambulance crew arrived, and also to the players and members of Eversholt CC who conducted themselves with great sensitivity and kindness in such a difficult situation.

Message from John McDougal, Club Chairman:

There was a palpable sense of shock, loss and sorrow at the Club this weekend. Many of those who gathered on Sunday to pay tribute and to get some small sense of solace from each other would have been friends of Steve's for 25 to 30 years. Steve was not only a very good cricketer, a modest and genuine guy but a really great club member. Only last month he spent hours on the Barbeque and in the kitchen at the Lancot Trophies as he did every year but many longstanding members including myself can remember him being one of the few who did the ground at Bull Pond Lane - so he has been giving his time freely for the club for 30 years.

He also has a unique place in Club history - as the man who scored 3 centuries in one week. I believe one was against Stanmore, then against the MCC in the centenary Cricket week (the MCC team included a couple of players from Stanmore who were getting fed up with watching him bat!) and then another at the next weekend.
In his early days he was also one of the clubs best fielders - particularly quick in the covers.

He was Club Captain in 2006 and 2007 - it was unusual for Steve to put himself forward but with relegation from division one he felt the Club needed to change and he skillfully lead the team to promotion in his first year in charge.

The Club have received a number of sincere messages of condolences from individuals, Clubs and leagues - The Beds League asked all clubs playing on Sunday to wear black armbands - a really tremendous gesture and one that showed the impression Steve had made over a much wider area than just our club - as a modest man no one would have been more surprised than him.

Update:

Steve's Funeral will be held on Wednesday 17th August at Garston Crematorium, at 2pm and afterwards at the Clubhouse at Lancot Park. Family flowers only.  All donations to Dunstable Town Cricket Club.
